Creating a Scenic Walkway

We were awarded the construction management contract to build the Samuel-de-Champlain Promenade in Quebec City, which spans a distance of 2.5 km along the St. Lawrence River.

This mandate consisted of rebuilding, building and developing the following elements:

  • A wharf
  • A staircase to the top of the cliff with interpretive panels
  • An observation tower
  • A visitor centre
  • Recreational areas
  • Picnic areas
  • Two soccer fields
  • A multi-purpose playground
  • A lawn and garden area large enough to accommodate events
  • Bicycle and pedestrian paths linking the parkway to the river
  • Water access ramps for kayaks and canoes
  • Parking along the riverfront

Despite the many constraints and the complexity of the work, we completed the mandate in time for the 400th anniversary celebrations of Quebec City.

Our Challenges

Coordinating Complex Work

We coordinated many major aspects of the projects, such as the relocation of a railroad, demolition of a bridge and transformation of a highway, without hindering access to the Old Port of Quebec.

A Multitude of Constraints

We carried out the mandate in compliance with the many constraints required by MTQ and CN, despite heavy, rush-hour traffic.
