Health and Research:
Building a Healthy Future for the Next Generation

The CRCHUM University of Montreal Health Centre Research Centre in Montreal, Quebec, an example of Pomerleau's expertise in the construction of health and research projects.

At Pomerleau, we know that health is the foundation of strong communities, and we’re committed to supporting it with the utmost care and commitment.

With experience in building laboratories, pharmacies, medical clinics, hospitals, research centers, morgues, long-term care centers, and many other healthcare facilities, we specialize in meeting high standards and perfecting every detail.

Our team is dedicated to designing and building healthcare infrastructure that is modern, sustainable, and resilient enough to handle both today’s needs and future challenges. But it’s not just about functionality for us—we strive to create spaces that feel like home, providing comfort to the community when it needs it most.

Health, the Heart of It All

Health is above everything—it is the most valuable resource we have as individuals and as a society. It is the foundation upon which we build our well-being, productivity, and happiness. It’s the driving force behind all other industries, which exist to support these three pillars.

From education to technology and agriculture to finance, every sector ultimately revolves around enhancing health or depends on it to thrive. Those industries that support health directly, like healthcare, research, and pharmaceuticals, rely on safe, functional, and up-to-date buildings and infrastructure to operate efficiently and effectively. That’s where we come in!

With hundreds of successful builds under our belt, we have the knowledge, tools, and passion to make any construction project a reality.

No Hurdle Too High

Effective communication is crucial in large-scale health and research construction projects, where so many components and factors are in play. Aligning goals within the team and promoting a culture of transparent communication across stakeholders is essential.

Having a team with experience in managing such projects and implementing collaborative tools, whether on digital platforms or through regular in-person meetings, helps facilitate communication, keep everyone in the loop, as well as define issues and find solutions.

It’s also crucial to have specialists who can plan ahead, think strategically, and execute efficiently, as flexibility is key.

as we demonstrated during the construction of the Research Center (CRCHUM), the Research Center and Central Utility Plant for the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) as well as the last phase of the Hospital Center project (CHUM Phase 2) of the University of Montreal. These projects put our capabilities to the test, requiring us to design with the medical equipment to be installed in mind, but without knowing their characteristics, forcing us to make estimates and assumptions as well as to remain flexible in order to succeed.

A Proven Track Record of Excellence in Healthcare and Research

With decades in the healthcare construction industry, we’ve perfected the craft of building with the community in mind and staying on track, no matter the deadline.

Take our construction of the new healthcare campus in Moosonee and the new ambulatory care center in Moose Factory, Ontario, as an example. From day one, we worked directly with the First Nations community to create spaces that were both functional for their medical needs and faithful to their beliefs and traditions.

We’re also no strangers to tight deadlines, as shown in our Vaudreuil-Soulanges Hospital project—where we chose to design and build simultaneously, saving valuable time and resources. We look forward to seeing this large-scale healthcare facility not only support the community’s health and medical needs but also drive job creation, investment, and local economic growth.

Our team is all about building with purpose. That’s why we’re passionate about not just serving a community but also uplifting it—in every way possible.

Sustainability at the Forefront

Our construction company is committed to sustainability, meeting LEED certification and Envision standards, following passive house guidelines, and aligning with Canada’s Net-Zero Challenge.

We always design with sustainability in mind, focusing on energy efficiency, innovative techniques, and the use of appropriate materials for eco-friendly infrastructures that last.

From vibration, noise, and dust control to air and water quality and soil and debris management, we take care of every aspect, making sure to follow the Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements and minimize environmental impact and disruptions to the community. Learn more about our commitment to build innovative and sustainable health care infrastructure.

Leveraging Data for Success

From planning to execution, we use digital models and data to manage complex information, both graphic and non-graphic.

This helps us run projects smoothly, coordinate large teams of engineers, architects, and other stakeholders, and adapt to changes with minimal interference—minimizing operating costs, delays, and environmental impact.

We don’t just use data for construction projects— we integrate it directly into our buildings, ensuring they’re smart, connected, and ready to adapt to an increasingly tech-driven world.

At Pomerleau, we don’t just build for today—we build for tomorrow.
