At Pomerleau, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our employees, clients, partners, and the general public. We make no compromises on our worksites and take the time and the necessary measures to do things right.
We have a unique H&S management structure that includes more than a hundred H&S specialists across Canada.
In addition to a health and safety advisor assigned full-time on most of our sites, a team of about 10 H&S coordinators regularly conducts audits and also acts as advisors for our internal resources and our partners.
H&S is a top priority at Pomerleau, so we integrate these principles at all levels of the organization and require everyone’s cooperation at all times. No exceptions.
Training and support
At Pomerleau, H&S training is essential. Our PX3 training centre allows us to offer unique training sessions personalized to our staff.
We believe in leadership when it comes to safety. That’s why we offer H&S Leadership training to all our supervisors, which aims to reduce injuries and teaches personal accountability in terms of safety. In fact, all managers in the company must follow a certain training matrix, depending on their role, which includes an H&S Leadership training session.
Furthermore, all H&S staff members hold a professional health and safety designation that is recognized by local authorities. Orientation training specific to each site is given to all workers. Special training may be offered for specific types of work (like control of nosocomial infections in hospitals, for example).
External audits are conducted every year on some of our sites, in addition to internal verifications performed at critical moments in a project.
We hold the Certification of Recognition (COR®) or its equivalent across Canada, with an average score of 95%.
Since January 2015, we have been an accredited member of ContractorCheck, which evaluates the H&S skills of contractors. The accreditation is re-evaluated every year.
We are a member of ISNetworld, which prequalifies contractors in particular according to their H&S files.
We are a member of Cognibox, whose mission is to simplify the management and reduce costs related to H&S training requirements.
Our health and safety program has received recognition for its exemplary H&S practices.
In 2022, we received the Health and Safety Achievement Award from the Hamilton Halton Construction Association recognizing an excellent injury/frequency score for 2020/2021 in Category 1 – Over 500,000 average hours worked.
In 2021, Pomerleau also received a prestigious award from the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA) for reaching a milestone of over two million hours worked without an accident in the province of Ontario alone.
In 2019 and 2020, Pomerleau received four prestigious awards from the OGCA:
