For the Health and Safety of All

At Pomerleau, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our employees, clients, partners, and the general public. We make no compromises on our worksites and take the time and the necessary measures to do things right.

We have a total upper management commitment to make our sites the safest in the industry.

In addition to a health and safety advisor assigned full-time on most of our sites, a team of about ten health and safety coordinators regularly conduct audits and act as advisors for our internal resources and partners.

Health and safety are a top priority at Pomerleau, that's why we integrate these principles into all levels of the organization and require everyones' cooperation at all times. No exceptions.

Training and Support

At Pomerleau, health and safety training is essential. Our PX3 training centre allows us to offer unique training sessions personalized to our staff.

We believe in leadership when it comes to safety. That’s why we offer Health and Safety Leadership training to all our supervisors, which aims to reduce injuries and teaches personal accountability in terms of safety. In fact, all managers in the company must follow a certain training matrix, depending on their role, which includes a Health and Safety Leadership training session.

Furthermore, all health and safety staff members hold a professional health and safety designation that is recognized by local authorities. Orientation training specific to each site is given to all workers. Special training may be offered for specific types of work (like control of nosocomial infections in hospitals, for example).

External audits are conducted every year on some of our sites, in addition to internal verifications performed at critical moments in a project.

Performance Awards and the National Cup

To strengthen our employees’ and partners’ commitment and involvement, we implemented an awards program. We hand out performance awards twice a year in each of our business regions across Canada to projects under construction that uphold exemplary health and safety, environment and quality standards. We also provide awards to health and safety leaders in our organization once a year, and we recognize health and safety innovations and successes in each of our regions in Canada.

Every year, completed projects are named the recipients of the Pomerleau National Cup award for exemplary health and safety, environment and quality practices.
