Industrial Construction: The Catalyst of Productivity

Industrial buildings are the backbone of a thriving economy and society, powering manufacturing and production, facilitating trade, and supporting a wide range of industries—from healthcare and transportation to countless others.

They are at the heart of designing and developing both physical and digital products and services, generating a broad spectrum of employment opportunities.

From food industry to pharmaceuticals and batteries, industrial infrastructure influences every sector of the economy.

Overcoming Technical Hurdles

At Pomerleau, we understand time is of the essence when it comes to industrial construction. The sooner an industrial building is ready, the sooner the company can start operations, optimize production and generate revenue without delay. Our team oversees every phase of building projects, from start to finish, ensuring seamless planning and coordination to prevent operational interruptions, all while facilitating communication between workers, unions, locals, indigenous communities, and all other stakeholders.

We know that to ensure efficiency and top-tier output, industrial projects rely on deep electromechanical knowledge, sophisticated automation systems, cutting-edge technology, and complex infrastructure. With so much equipment being involved, delays and unforeseen problems and changes can also arise, highlighting the importance of a skilled team to tackle these challenges swiftly.

Thanks to our experts, our experience, and our resources, we can meet those specialized needs and deliver turnkey builds within the tightest deadlines and in the most remote settings.

Procurement Management and Installation of Materials and Equipment

In the industrial sector, the equipment inside the building is often more valuable than the building itself.

We understand this, which is why our expert procurement (commissioning) teams can ensure the efficient management of orders and the installation of specialized equipment.

Meeting deadlines in manufacturing involves planning the phasing and ordering of specialized equipment as quickly as possible. The schedule is often dictated by these orders.

Types of Industrial Buildings

There are two main types of industrial buildings, depending on the industrial sector and on the complexity and scale of the build.

Heavy

For major economic activities, such as mining, raw material processing, and large-scale production of goods, including infrastructure for chemical and mineral processing, the battery industry, and pulp and paper production.

Light

For smaller-scale construction jobs like data centers or manufacturing infrastructure for the agri-food and pharmaceutical industries.

At Pomerleau, we are passionate about industrial construction that drives the economy forward, and we've been lucky to dive into some truly exciting projects along the way.

Success Across Industries

With extensive experience in industrial construction, where the electromechanical component can account for up to 80-90% of the project, we specialize in managing complex builds that go beyond basic infrastructure, requiring highly technical expertise and a deep understanding of assembly lines.

We've built industrial buildings for all kinds of industrial sectors, so we understand their unique needs and seamlessly adapt our approach to meet them.

Data Centers: We focus on incorporating advanced technologies for maximum performance and energy efficiency.

Pharmaceutical: We adhere to strict standards, ensuring a controlled environment for the safe production of drugs and medical devices.

Food: We put emphasis on food safety and sustainable materials for minimal contamination and impact.

Battery: We know that the key elements are the implementation of renewable energy and the reduction of carbon footprints as well as the prioritization of efficiency, safety, and new technologies, like smart sensors.

Warehouses and Distribution Centers: We build with safety and functionality in mind for a safer and more efficient work environment.

Manufacturing: We leverage our electromechanical knowledge and experience to ensure the successful installation and integration of equipment and systems.

You can count on our experienced team to craft innovative, sustainable solutions tailored to each industrial construction project.

Health and Safety in Industrial Construction

Health and safety are at the heart of our priorities, both on construction sites and in industrial environments. We focus on prevention, awareness, training, and knowledge sharing to create safe workplaces that meet the highest standards.

Our management system, supported by more than 100 health and safety specialists, ensures a constant presence on site and allows us to maintain a contribution rate well below the industry average across all Canadian provinces. COR-certified (or equivalent), we adopt standardized practices focused on continuous improvement.

Whether it is to limit exposure to hazardous materials during construction or to reduce contamination risks in pharmaceutical and food sectors, we consistently comply with health and safety standards, environmental protocols, and industry requirements. Finally, by integrating technology, automation, and digitization, we protect not only our workers but also local communities, the ecosystem, and end users today and tomorrow.

Adapting With Agility

Our team leads the way in industrial construction, customizing designs to meet the unique needs of every client while anticipating challenges to keep projects on track. We use advanced tools like Procore, aXLab, and data-driven platforms to optimize project management, speed up delivery, and meet FOX program guidelines.

With innovations such as digital twins, AI, robotics, IoT, modular construction, GIS, and 3D BIM, we bring efficiency and precision to every project.

Committed to sustainability, we also adopt new materials, standards, and practices to reduce environmental impact while building safe, reliable industrial facilities.
