Installing Three New Lines

The Hydro-Québec mandate given to our team consisted of installing three new 120 kV lines from the Montérégie substation, strengthening the regional electrical transmission network.

Specifically, our work included these components:

  • Building a 1.2-km access road
  • Pouring the foundations for the buildings and electrical facilities
  • Erecting three buildings (totalling 6,500 m2) for the electrical facilities
  • Building the Control House, the nerve centre of the facilities that houses the substaion’s control panels
  • Building and installing the electrical equipment pulling and connecting the grounding and power cables

For the project, our team blasted more than 8,000 m³ of rock to make room for the concrete structures. The 181,000 m² substation platform required more than 450,000 mt of backfill material (transported by truck).

Approximately 5 km of prefabricated cable conduits were installed on the substation platform and about 200 km of cable connected all the equipment.

Our Challenges

Crucial Site Work

We did extensive site preparation and grading.

Monitoring Noise Level

We hired a specialized firm to ensure that the noise level of on-site heavy vehicles remained within the permitted limits.

Managing Heavy Traffic

We performed the work efficiently, despite the heavy traffic and management of the signal system at the site’s perimeter.
