I had the privilege of attending the 2022 CCA Annual conference, which was in Vancouver. This event allowed me to exchange with many partners from the industry. What struck me from the various discussions and presentations during the event is the potential for mobilization of the industry towards common goals and objectives.
And this all ties into what I shared a guest speaker on a CEO roundtable about Growing a More Valuable Company. For Pomerleau, discussing growth involves examining many components of our business strategy, from laying the solid foundations that allowed us to endure – and even thrive during the pandemic – to consistently pushing for innovation and sustainable initiatives, to continuously investing in our people and talent.
As we continue our growth journey, it is our responsibility, as a Canadian leader in the construction industry, to set the example.
In the context of globalization, and with the lessons learned during the pandemic, it is clear to me that one way to set the example is to help create the conditions that will strengthen local capacity. We need to ensure that the Canadian ecosystem can support the many business opportunities expected in the next decade.
We, at Pomerleau, have always believed that constructing buildings and infrastructure is, above all, about building communities. This sentiment includes the construction industry community. Moving towards collaborative delivery models is the future of our industry and would allow us to elevate the industry in its entirety. Reducing the size of projects using alternative delivery methods would help create a critical mass of local, smaller high-performance players.
We all need to advocate for a modernize industry and for building Canadian expertise and capacity. For the well-being of our economy and communities.
Our industry is very complex, and each of our 200 coast to coast projects are unique. At Pomerleau we believe relationships and collaboration can help deliver impactful projects to our communities. It is part of our DNA, and we believe that when we are more efficient as an industry, everybody wins.
