There was no shortage of challenges with this Desjardins Financial Security project. Despite everything, we successfully completed the construction of Cité Desjardins de la Coopération and all project-related work.
Since sustainable development is central to every Pomerleau project, the stone cladding of the demolished buildings was recycled and integrated into the site's landscaping.
We also installed green roofs and the world's tallest indoor green wall, measuring 65 metres in height. That's in addition to a variable airflow ventilation system with CO2 sensors that modulates the supply of fresh air based on the occupation of each space and a geothermal system that meets nearly 17% of the building's heating and cooling needs.
Pomerleau also built sophisticated control systems that automatically adjust the direction of the building's solar shades to the intensity and angle of the sun, modulate its energy-efficient lighting based on natural light and automatically activate motorized shutters to provide natural ventilation to the tower's green wall.
We ensured the safety and traffic flow of 5,500 employees and visitors throughout the project. We also did some blasting near occupied buildings and had to make the new building safe and functional before the work was completed.
During the demolition, we relied on our in-depth knowledge of historical construction techniques to retrieve materials without damaging them.
We demonstrated our flexibility by starting work before obtaining the final plans. Many modifications were, in fact, made to the original design during the project.
We built a temporary parking lot with shuttle service and sidewalks to make up for the lack of parking spaces during construction.
In collaboration with the City of Lévis, we realigned Commandeurs Street.
