From Ottawa to Toronto and beyond, our presence has evolved alongside the province’s changing needs, delivering healthcare facilities, transportation infrastructure, public spaces, educational institutions and landmark redevelopment projects that help communities live, work and connect.

 

Establishing a presence in the nation’s capital: Opening of the Ottawa office – 1992

Pomerleau established its Ottawa office in 1992, marking an important milestone in the company’s growth in Ontario. In the years that followed, the company contributed to several landmark projects in the National Capital Region, including the construction of the Library and Archives Canada Preservation Centre and the renovation of the iconic Château Laurier hotel.

These early achievements helped establish long-term relationships in the region while demonstrating Pomerleau’s expertise in institutional construction, heritage restoration and complex project delivery.

Opening of the Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, a project delivered by Pomerleau in 12 months.

Delivering ambitious entertainment infrastructure: Casino du Lac-Leamy – 1995

Completed in only 12 months, the Casino du Lac-Leamy project became one of Pomerleau’s first major achievements in the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

The project highlighted the company’s ability to execute large-scale developments under tight timelines while contributing to the growth of a major entertainment destination that continues to play an important role in the local economy today.

 

Expanding into the Greater Toronto Area: Opening of the Toronto office – 2010

The opening of Pomerleau’s Toronto office marked a significant step in the company’s continued expansion across Ontario.

As the region experienced rapid growth, Pomerleau established a stronger local presence to support increasingly complex construction needs across the Greater Toronto Area.

This expansion laid the groundwork for long-term growth in Ontario’s largest metropolitan region and strengthened the company’s ability to support major institutional, commercial and infrastructure projects.

Preserving heritage and cultural institutions: Parliamentary Precinct and national museums projects – 2010s

Throughout the 2010s, Pomerleau contributed to the preservation and modernization of several of Canada’s most important federal and heritage institutions in Ottawa. Projects such as the East Block Redevelopment, Wellington Buildings and the ongoing Block 2 Redevelopment within the Parliamentary Precinct reflect the company’s expertise in delivering highly complex construction projects in active and historically significant environments. 

During the same period, Pomerleau also contributed to the revitalization of major cultural and scientific institutions across the National Capital Region, including the Canada Science and Technology Museum and the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. These projects helped modernize spaces dedicated to innovation, science, education and culture while preserving destinations that welcome residents, tourists and visitors from across Ontario and Canada. Through these landmark projects in Ottawa, Pomerleau continues to support the growth, preservation and cultural development of communities throughout the region.

 

Supporting sustainable urban mobility: TTC Leslie Barns – 2012

One of Pomerleau’s first major projects in Toronto was the TTC Leslie Barns facility, located in the city’s Leslieville neighbourhood and developed as part of Toronto’s evolving public transportation network. Designed to support the Toronto Transit Commission’s new fleet of low-floor streetcars, the project contributed to the modernization of transit operations across the city.

As Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area continue to grow, projects like TTC Leslie Barns help improve public transit reliability, connectivity and sustainable urban mobility for local communities. The project also highlights Pomerleau’s expertise in delivering complex transportation infrastructure within dense urban environments while supporting the long-term development of the region’s transit network.

 

Strengthening local expertise: Acquisition of Giffels Westpro – 2016

In 2016, Pomerleau expanded its Ontario operations through the acquisition of Giffels Westpro.

This milestone strengthened the company’s expertise in industrial, commercial and institutional construction while reinforcing its long-term commitment to Ontario’s growing communities.

The acquisition also helped broaden Pomerleau’s capabilities across multiple sectors throughout the province.

Expanding healthcare infrastructure in Northern Ontario: WAHA Redevelopment – 2020

The Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) Redevelopment Project represents one of the most significant healthcare infrastructure projects currently underway in Northern Ontario. The project involves the construction of a new regional acute care hospital, an Elder Care Lodge, a visitor hostel, and staff accommodation in Moosonee, as well as a new ambulatory care centre on Moose Factory Island.

By contributing to this transformative project, Pomerleau is helping improve access to healthcare services for Indigenous and remote communities while supporting long-term community development in the region along Ontario’s James Bay and Hudson Bay coasts.

 

Building spaces for future generations: Harmony Commons Student Residence – 2022

At the University of Toronto, Pomerleau contributed to the development of Harmony Commons Student Residence, a modern student housing project designed to support the needs for student housing on campus. The building was developed to meet the rigorous Passive House high-performance standard. This approach integrated advanced low-energy design strategies, including high-efficiency insulation, optimized window systems, and innovative building technologies. Together, these elements significantly reduce energy consumption while enhancing occupant comfort and sustainability.

The project reflects the company’s expertise in delivering large-scale residential and institutional developments while creating modern living environments focused on sustainability and student experience.

Supporting waterfront connectivity: Jack Layton Ferry Terminal – 2026

Pomerleau is currently contributing to the modernization of the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal shoreside infrastructure in Toronto.

The project supports the transition toward more sustainable marine transportation while improving connectivity between Toronto and its island communities.

By modernizing critical waterfront infrastructure, the project helps prepare the city for future transportation needs while enhancing  passenger experience.
