Demolition & reconstruction

Our team was awarded the mandate to demolish and rebuild the bridge that supports Highway 401 across the Cataraqui River in Kingston.

Our work included the following elements:

  • Widening the highway section between the bridge and Highway 15
  • Improving the Highway 15 interchange
  • Preparing, implementing and monitoring the project management plan, quality control plan, and inspection and execution test plans
  • Planning the design and construction activities
  • Controlling costs, schedule and quality
  • Providing on-site training and supervision
  • Managing traffic and supervising construction methods and logistics
  • Obtaining permits and approvals
  • Supporting external communications
  • Developing and monitoring environmental protection measures

The project, which began in the midst of Canada's 150th anniversary celebrations, was completed in just over three years, at a cost of $32 million.

Our challenge

Heavy traffic

We had to control traffic on the busiest highway in Canada.
