At Pomerleau, we believe it’s time to shift the narrative and bridge the gap between perception and reality. That’s why we’re launching Building Forward, a video webseries designed to explore and challenge Canadians' perceptions of our industry. The series will feature three episodes covering: women in construction, youth in construction and innovation and sustainability.
In this episode, journalist Tina Tenneriello speaks with experts about why women are underrepresented in the construction industry and how do we change the perception that construction isn't welcoming for women.
In this episode, we explore how young people can help solve Canada’s construction labor shortage and how changing perceptions can inspire the next generation to join the construction industry.
In this episode, we dive into the heart of a fundamental transformation: how new technologies, innovation, and advanced materials are redefining the construction industry in Canada. We take a closer look at the growing role of Passive House standards, which aim for maximum energy efficiency, and how these approaches are revolutionizing the way we build for a future that is not only sustainable but also resilient and forward-thinking.
According to a recent Léger survey commissioned by Pomerleau, 90% of Canadians agree that construction is essential to economic development, yet only 56% would recommend it as a career to their children or loved ones. Misconceptions persist: 74% think you need to be physically strong to work in construction, and 69% of women still see it as a difficult industry to enter.
Through this series, we aim to bridge the gap between perception and reality, showcasing a modern, inclusive, and innovative construction industry. By shining a light on the diversity of roles and the evolution of the sector, we hope to inspire more women and young people to see themselves in the future of construction. We know there's still work to do—and we're committed to transparency, progress, and helping reshape the image of our industry for the better.
