We are excited to announce that the Burrard-Chilco Partnership, a joint venture of EBC Inc., Pomerleau BC Inc., and Spie Batignolles Canada Inc. was awarded a significant contract to replace the 92-year-old Capilano Main No. 4. The Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel Project is a vital infrastructure initiative, valued at $495 million, that will be constructed beneath Vancouver’s iconic Stanley Park.
The Capilano Main No. 4, a 1.8-meter diameter steel pipe built in the 1930s, is nearing the end of its service life. As a key component of Metro Vancouver’s water supply network, this main carries half of the City of Vancouver's drinking water and one-third of the region's supply. Replacing this aging infrastructure is crucial to ensuring the continued reliability and safety of water delivery to Vancouver’s residents.
The replacement project involves the construction of a 1.4-kilometer tunnel, which will be situated 40 to 60 meters below ground, extending from Lumbermen’s Arch to just east of Lost Lagoon. This new tunnel will house a 2.6-meter diameter main, effectively doubling the capacity of the existing pipeline. The project is a testament to our commitment to innovative construction, precision, and sustainability in delivering complex infrastructure solutions.
The Burrard-Chilco Partnership brings together a unified team of experts dedicated to excellence in engineering and construction. Guided by a shared vision, we are committed to minimizing disruptions and respecting the natural beauty of Stanley Park throughout the construction process.
The Burrard-Chilco Partnership is proud to contribute to the long-term sustainability of Metro Vancouver’s water supply system. The Capilano Main No. 4 replacement project is not just an infrastructure upgrade; it’s an investment in the future of Metro Vancouver, ensuring that the region’s growing population continues to have access to high quality drinking water.
We look forward to successfully delivering this vital project and safeguarding one of Metro Vancouver's most treasured resources for generations to come.
