And just like that, another successful Pomerleau Challenge has been completed! In June, employees travelled to Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec to compete against each other in a Survivor themed event.
Since 2009, Pomerleau has been hosting challenges to promote well-being and perseverance and raise money for charities across Canada. Participants are given the resources to train together prior to the event. Together, they work towards a common goal, while building relationships and learning from one another- something that is witnessed on our sites daily.
This year, over 500 participants and 75 volunteers from across Canada partook in the event. Participants trained for four months at Orangetheory Fitness and worked together as teams to reach their fitness goals. On the day of the challenge, participants were divided into 75 teams and competed in 15 games that challenged their agility, strength, endurance, strategy, and communications skills.
A total of $112,000 was raised for Tree Canada and the Canadian Mental Health Association. The proceeds from the event will be used to regenerate forests and set up mental health initiatives. Additionally, the wood used for the construction of the various events will have a second life, and will be reused by Bishop's University and the organization Rêve nourricier to build planters for urban agriculture. This donation will create a lasting impact on the local communities.

I had the best experience with my teammates. Our team was synergetic, and we really had a lot of fun! This event helped me learn more about some of the colleagues I come across every day, and it made me feel part of something bigger: a work family filled with love and collaboration!
What a unique experience! At Pomerleau, we often talk about family and taking care of each other. This includes sport, which is a way of feeling good mentally and physically. For three months, we were lucky enough to have access to indoor sports classes. The goal made me want to push myself! The day of the challenge was magnificent and memorable! In teams of seven colleagues from across Canada, we overcame 17 challenges. The key was communication and collaboration, an extra challenge when you don't speak the same language and don't know each other. I don't know of any other company offers its employees such a wonderful time! I can't wait for the next challenge!
Training was an opportunity to get back into shape, but the most enjoyable part was doing the workouts with my site crew.
I found the organization of the event to be really great and very professional. We were made to feel very welcome, and the instructions were clear and well laid out. The atmosphere was great and made you want to push yourself. The location was ideal for a group as big as ours and the challenges were really well balanced. I can't wait for the next edition.
