Washroom Renovations

Through our flexibility and ingenuity, we successfully completed the demolition, retrofit and renovation of the Scotia Centre office tower.

Specifically, this contract consisted of demolishing and retrofitting the washroom interiors (on Floors 5 to 40) of the Scotia Centre tower. Renovations to this 40-storey, occupied building were completed in five phases — typically four to eight floors per phase.

Most of the work was mechanical and electrical, primarily to remove and replace the building-wide hot water distribution system with standalone electric water heaters.

We also upgraded the washrooms, incorporating these new architectural elements:

  • Ceramic walls and flooring.
  • Wood partitions.
  • Lighting.
  • More eco-friendly bathroom fixtures.

In total, we installed more than 180 new toilets, 160 new sinks and 80 granite countertops.

Our Challenges

Working with Plan and Budget Changes

With our flexible approach, we could propose new design ideas and budgets whenever the scope of the project changed considerably.

Narrow Washroom Facilities

Since the washroom facilities are quite limited in terms of space, we made sure that no more than one subcontractor ever worked in the same place at the same time.
