Design-Build

We obtained the mandate from Canada Lands Company for the design and construction of a highway interchange with roundabout intersections.

The project included the following elements:

  • Designing and building a bridge over Crowchild Trail, including transit-only access northbound on Richard Road
  • Building a single lane roundabout on the east side of the interchange
  • Adding a ramp from southbound Crowchild Trail to bypass Flanders Avenue, retaining the existing bridge and sidewalks
  • Installing all necessary supporting infrastructure (retaining walls, noise-reducing walls and overhead guide panel structures with foundations)
  • Installing all underground and overhead utilities, including street lighting

The new infrastructure increases pedestrian and bicycle safety on Crowchild Trail and provides greater access to the neighbourhood. It also incorporates the principles of the Calgary Transportation Plan and the Municipal Development Plan.

Westpro, our construction division, delivered the entire project five weeks ahead of schedule, all the while meeting the client's criteria for success.

Our Challenges

Populated Neighbourhood

Westpro, a division of Pomerleau, had to manage the work in a densely populated area, near many local businesses and a National Defense building.

Managing Traffic

To prevent traffic problems on the edge of the construction site, Westpro implemented traffic control and safety management measures.

Controlling Noise Levels

We scheduled our building material deliveries during off-peak hours to limit the noise level.
