3D rendering of a data center in the Montreal region

Pomerleau has successfully converted a Core and Shell building into a state-of-the-art data center in an optimal location. Precision external civil engineering was required to execute the civil engineering, concrete work, and metal structure.

In parallel, we implemented sophisticated MEP systems (electrical, HVAC, fire detection, telecommunications, BMS and security) to create an optimal environment for IT equipment and to meet the most stringent redundancy and physical security requirements.

Civil works

We have completed all civil engineering work following the Core and Shell phase, including the redirection of rainwater systems, the concreting of generator slabs, and the remaining landscaping

Precise engineering with concrete and steel

By employing precise engineering with reinforced concrete and steel, we have created rigid and modular technical spaces tailored to the exacting requirements of computer rooms.

MEP systems

Our teams carried out the high-performance and redundant MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems to ensure reliable power distribution, precise cooling, and optimal connectivity. The FitOut design was also completed under our mandate and supervision. Building management systems (BMS) provide real-time monitoring and control of all building systems.

Enhanced security

We have implemented stringent security measures to protect equipment and sensitive data, including access control systems, video surveillance, and fire detection sophisticated systems

Innovative solutions

Our BIM and 3D scanning-based approach has enabled us to deliver projects more efficiently and cost-effectively. By simulating various project phases, we were able to proactively identify and resolve potential challenges, reducing the risk of delays and cost overruns for our clients.

We are happy to collaborate with our client and our trade partners in this operated building. Health and Safety measures, Quality Control and tight schedules are the challenges of this project to deliver a product to the operations team with no deficiencies and well commissioned equipment’s. The rigour and expertise of our management team are implemented to give the best services.

Environmental considerations

The data center is committed to environmental excellence, adhering to specific criteria of the LEED v4 certification, such as waste management. Furthermore, the mechanical systems are designed for maximum energy efficiency. Through innovative construction and operational solutions, our digital infrastructure meets the highest standards of environmental performance.

Health and Safety

Thanks to rigorous health and safety measures, going beyond conventional standards, this project stood out for its high level of prevention. Considering any work at heights above 6 feet as a potential risk, we implemented adapted protocols. Regular initiatives, such as training and team meetings, raised awareness among all stakeholders and created a positive safety culture. This system was complemented by a recognition program, rewarding best practices and further strengthening everyone's commitment.

Our Challenges

The project was subject to several constraints, including the need for rapid commissioning and the maintenance of a dust-free environment. To achieve this, rigorous planning and precise coordination were essential, especially given the requirement for phased commissioning without interrupting the site's 24/7 operations.
