We were awarded the contract to build the City of Cornwall's multi-sport Benson Centre. The project called for a steel frame, an outer shell made of insulated metal curtain walls and hollow-core slab flooring on the second storey.
The project was completed successfully and on time, despite the tight deadlines required by the City of Cornwall to secure federal funding.
In line with our sustainable development philosophy, we also incorporated a rainwater harvesting system on the roof, primarily used for flushing the toilets. The roof has a light-coloured thermoplastic membrane cover to reduce the heat island effect.
In addition, the CIMCO Eco-Chill® refrigeration system recovers and reuses the heat generated by the compressors that cool the ice — for these purposes:
This process also produces a bank of ice that stores heat or cold to manage peak demand for heating or air conditioning. In addition, a digital interface ensures that the system recovers and reuses 100% of the energy the Benson Centre uses to cool the ice.
We coordinated the work of many subcontractors and successfully built multiple arenas at the same time to meet strict federal grant deadlines.
Installing the concrete rink slabs and the heating and cooling systems beneath them demanded a high level of precision.
