Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) Redevelopment Project

Pomerleau was selected by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) as the preferred proponent to develop the Weeneebayko Area Health Authority (WAHA) Redevelopment Project, which involves the design and construction of a new health care campus in Moosonee and a new Ambulatory Care Centre on Moose Factory Island, through the upcoming development phase. Once complete, these modern facilities will support WAHA in providing exceptional, culturally appropriate, high-quality healthcare to the James Bay and Hudson Bay region.

Upon commencement of the development phase, Pomerleau will collaborate with WAHA, Infrastructure Ontario and the communities in the region to provide a unique design responsive to the needs of the areas it will serve. Follow the development phase, Pomerleau will have an opportunity to enter into an agreement to finalize the design and construct the project. The new health campus in Moosonee will include 36 inpatient beds in private rooms; a larger 24-hour emergency department; modern surgical suites; a facility for dialysis; expanded mental health and addictions programming; improved primary health care services; a lab/pharmacy/diagnostic imaging facility; a traditional healing facility; a new 32-bed Elder Care Lodge; a hostel for patients and visitors; and residences for staff.

The new ambulatory care centre on Moose Factory Island will include emergency health services; access to primary health care; diagnostic imaging capabilities; physiotherapy; a dental facility; a facility for dialysis; the Ontario Telemedicine Network; a traditional healing facility and health promotion programming.
