Today, the Honourable Tim Houston, Premier of Nova Scotia, was on hand to break ground on the construction of the Roger Bacon long-term care home in Amherst, N.S. This new, level 2 nursing care facility will replace the existing Gables Lodge, which is owned and operated by GEM Health Care Group Limited and was its first senior care location. Pomerleau will build the Roger Bacon home, named in honour of the former Nova Scotian Premier who heralds from Amherst, adjacent to the current facility. When completed, this two-storey, 7,557 m2 building will feature 96 single resident rooms.
Roger Bacon is one of 27 facilities approved by the Nova Scotian government in its commitment to add 2,500 new beds to the long-term care system by building or renovating facilities across the province.
We are excited to be partnering with GEM Health Care Group to help them realize their mission to provide the very best long-term care for Nova Scotians.
Like Pomerleau, GEM is a family-owned business and a leader in its field.
We share their vision to build healthy communities by transforming how health care is delivered to seniors.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the first of numerous new long-term care centres in Nova Scotia that Pomerleau will be building with GEM in the coming years.
