Construction of New Facilities

Port-Aux-Basques is a Canadian Coast Guard hub on the west coast of Newfoundland. Due to its aging infrastructure, Public Works and Government Services Canada contracted us to build the new Port-Aux-Basques Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre.

The building consists of two levels, offering 600 m2 of usable space per floor.

The first floor houses these elements:

  • Main electrical room.
  • Indoor generator.
  • Server room.
  • Workspaces.
  • Storage.

The second floor houses the following:

  • Meeting rooms.
  • Communications and radar rooms.
  • The main mechanical room.

The outside of the building has been completely landscaped with the following elements:

  • Vegetation.
  • Fuel storage tank.
  • Asphalt parking lot.
  • Signature red and white Cape Cod siding.

Our Challenges

Remote Construction Site

We were able to get building materials to the site, despite the considerable distance between the worksite and our suppliers.

Harsh Conditions

We used the LEAN Last Planner system to mitigate the month's delay caused by high winds that prevented us from working on site safely.
