New Building Construction

Our mandate was to build the Diamond Theatre located at Place d'Youville, in the heart of Old Quebec City.

This 625-seat cultural and creative venue hosts productions by Ex Machina (Robert Lepage), circus shows, opera performances and the artistic endeavours of many partners.

The architectural design of the theatre stands out for the addition of a genuine "diamond" — a contemporary glass structure that we integrated into the historic façade designed by architect Joseph-Ferdinand Peachy in 1879.

This new 8,565 m2 building consists of eight above-ground floors and two underground floors. It includes these elements:

  • A main broadcast hall with variable geometry for multiple configurations.
  • Lobbies to welcome the public.
  • A secondary studio.
  • Artist dressing rooms.
  • Retail space.
  • Office space.

We faced many challenges during the project, including a tight budget, a busy construction site, limited space and soil decontamination.

Despite these obstacles, we met the client’s budget, deadlines and requirements.

Our Challenges

Busy Urban Area

We successfully completed the project, including the construction of a complex concrete structure, despite the busy and confining location of the site.

Preserving a Historic Facade

We preserved the facade of the former building, protecting its heritage value.

The Need for Decontamination

We uncovered asbestos and contaminated soil during the project, forcing us to proceed with asbestos removal and decontamination.

A Tight Budget

We completed the project successfully, meeting the client’s tight budget every step of the way.
