Construction of an Amphitheatre

Our team was awarded the construction management contract for the construction of a state-of-the-art amphitheatre: the Videotron Centre in Quebec City.

The centre, designed for on-ice activities and other major events, represents the largest public investment in Quebec City’s history.

The 65,037 m2, seven-storey amphitheatre had to meet the following criteria:

  • A venue that can be converted into a world-class concert hall or a professional NHL-standard hockey rink.
  • An arena with a maximum seating capacity of 21,000, including prefabricated seats and bleachers.
  • An arena with player rooms, locker rooms, a press gallery, corporate lounges, 81 lodges, bars, restaurants, a lobby, and parking lots.
  • A venue with scenographic and acoustic systems, fine art exhibits, and electrical and mechanical systems (including heat recovery from refrigeration, lighting, ventilation, and cooling systems).
  • A venue with more than $47 million in specialized furniture, fixtures and equipment and furniture (including their commissioning).

Our team completed this highly-complex mandate on time and on budget, fulfilling every requirement.

In order to highlight Quebec's expertise in wood construction, the building envelope is supported by a glulam structure.

In addition, this was our first project based on BIM (Building Information Modelling) technology, a process that helps construction professionals be more collaborative, better coordinate their teams and keep their project schedules on track.

Our Challenges

Tight Schedules & Budgets

We delivered the project on time and on budget despite its complexity and a fast-paced work environment, effectively dividing the mandate into 45 work packages.

Complex Project Logistics

We tackled many challenges, including extensive site and delivery logistics, the on-site presence of public services, and the coordination of numerous internal and external stakeholders (such as the City of Quebec, Quebecor, ExpoCité, and the media).

A Project in the Spotlight

There was intense pressure on our team to successfully complete this large-scale, high-profile project critical to regional economic development.

Contaminated Soil

We relied on our attention to detail and soil management know-how to decontaminate the soil.
