From June 5 to 7, 2025, more than 600 colleagues gathered in Ottawa for a unique experience at the Pomerleau Challenge, a collaborative event focused on teamwork. Beyond the sporting events and moments of camaraderie, this gathering enabled a concrete contribution to the community: an $80,000 donation to the Breakfast Club of Canada, entirely funded by Pomerleau employees.
This gift came to life on October 27th during a visit to a school located in an Indigenous community on Georgina Island, Ontario. Daylon Courchene, Regional Indigenous Relations Coordinator at Pomerleau, had the honour of participating in a memorable morning: preparing and serving breakfast to the students, learning about the Big Drumming tradition, and exploring the island with the Breakfast Club team.
It was a wonderful experience to collaborate with the Breakfast Club of Canada, to serve breakfast in the community, and to witness the exceptional work they do every day in schools across Canada.
The school we visited expressed its profound gratitude:
“Chi Miigwech for visiting our students' community to see a snapshot of what Breakfast Club of Canada and Pomerleau mean not just to our school but to our whole community. It allows us to start our mornings “in a good way” with nutritious breakfasts, so students know they will be fed. Some students look forward to coming to help prepare breakfasts in the morning and learn valuable life skills. We start each day nourished, connected, and ready to learn together. With this support, we are building stronger futures for our students, our school, and our entire community. With the high cost of food, this also helps families who are struggling to put food on the table and do not have to worry about breakfast. We are truly grateful for all that Breakfast Club of Canada and Pomerleau do.”
According to Statistics Canada, nearly 2.5 million young people in the country live in a household affected by food insecurity. In this context, more than 890,000 children benefit from a nutritious breakfast at school, allowing them to start their day with energy, focus, and dignity. At Pomerleau, we believe that community engagement is expressed through concrete actions. This donation reflects our corporate culture: supportive, human-centered, and forward-looking.
This $80,000 donation would not have been possible without the generosity of our employees. Their commitment demonstrates that every small gesture can have a big impact. Pomerleau is proud to have participated in this meaningful initiative, but even prouder to be able to count on such dedicated and supportive teams. Together, we have fed more than just stomachs: we have fed hope, dignity, and learning.
