For Pomerleau, nothing is more important than the health and safety of our employees, clients, partners and the general public. On our worksites, we make no concessions and take the time and the necessary measures to do things right.
Our health and safety program is made up of clear and effective procedures that we do not compromise: risk analysis before the start of each project, an action plan and preventive measures for each mandate. This is how we minimize accidents and the unexpected.
Our H&S program is recognized by security associations across the country. We hold the health and safety Certification of Recognition (COR™) in five provinces: Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Alberta and British Columbia. In addition, we are members in good standing in the ContractorCheckSM program.
Recognizing exemplary H&S practices
This year’s Pomerleau LAB, formerly known as the Management Summit, was once again the occasion to recognize the Health & Safety efforts and abilities of our employees.
“Their practices, teamwork and commendable behaviour exemplify all Pomerleau’s values but especially Excellence,” says Guillaume Jacques, Vice President, Human Resources, Health & Safety.“We are proud of the culture we have created that truly makes H&S part of our employees’ and partners’ way of life. Every year it becomes more and more difficult to choose the H&S award recipients as the calibre keeps getting better and that’s great! In fact, there are many people who deserve to be recognized and we are thankful to all of them.”
Guillaume adds that the involvement of each team member remains the ultimate secret to success.
“Each day on our construction sites, danger is present. Together, we can identify it, eliminate it, and look out for each other. Pomerleau wants everybody who sets foot on a construction site to go home safely, without even a scratch.”

"H&S can never be the responsibility of just one person; communication and teamwork are intrinsically linked to achieving success in H&S.”

“In my opinion, it is clear that work does not take longer if it is done safely. On the contrary, we all win by avoiding accidents. This requires each of us to be more aware.”

“Winning this award is confirmation that all we do is recognized and respected by our peers and Pomerleau as a whole. With the growth the construction industry is experiencing and the increasing complexity of our jobs, H&S is becoming more of a key factor, not only at work but in our daily lives. I see a change in the attitude of the workers wanting to complete their tasks safely and taking the time to ensure the proper controls are in place.”

“If a worker wears the required safety equipment and uses the right tools because it is mandatory on your worksite, you’ve reached 50% of your objective. If he is wearing it because he is convinced of the benefits, it makes all the difference! Without realizing it, he becomes the best H&S ambassador to his co-workers. Obviously, teamwork is essential. The best Formula One driver in the world with the best car will finish last if he is alone in the pit!”
